
Dasha Smirnova has been competing in debate for five years and coaching for three, with experience in both Public Forum and Parliamentary Debate. As a member of the nationally ranked #1 Bronx High School of Science Debate Team, she served as both Novice Director and Captain of the Public Forum team, mentoring, developing, and supporting younger debaters throughout their competitive careers.During her time as a competitor, Dasha was the 2023 TOC Silver PF Semi-Finalist, a two-time TOC Silver PF Qualifier, Champion of the 2023 Durham Cavalier Invitational, and earned the NSDA Superior Distinction Certificate during her senior year. At the state level, she was a three-time NYSFL Qualifier, the 2023 NYSFL Octo-Finalist, and the 2021 NYSFL Champion.As a coach, Dasha enjoys helping students build strong fundamentals while developing advanced strategic skills. She specializes in debate basics, lay adaptation, big-picture analysis, meta-weighing, and K debate, with a particular focus on identity-based literature. She is passionate about making high-level debate concepts accessible to students at every stage of their competitive journey.Dasha is currently a junior at Columbia University and has continued her coaching career as an Instructor at Lumos Debate and an Assistant Coach at Dalton School Middle School. She is thrilled to coach at NSD this summer and can’t wait to work with all of you!
