Ryan is a rising sophomore at Wake Forest University intending to major in Electrical Engineering. During his first semester of college, Ryan earned wins over 2025 NDT semifinalist Dartmouth CG on the negative as a 2N and NDT octofinalist Emory LY on the affirmative as a 2A, both at the same tournament. Before college, Ryan reached elimination rounds at several major high-school tournaments and served as captain of his high-school debate team. Ryan is also an alumnus of the Wake Forest Ross K. Smith Debate Institute camp. As an instructor, Ryan is most interested in teaching Kritikal approaches to policy debate. His primary areas of specialization include Black feminist theory, particularly its deployment on the negative, Afropessimism, Black settler-colonial theory, and Black literature more broadly. He especially enjoys helping students develop creative yet personal arguments, and understand how critical scholarship can inform both debate strategy and the everyday.
