1NR/NR
General Definition
The first negative rebuttal is when the negative team attacks the affirmative's positions and rebuilds their own.
In Public Forum, there is only one rebuttal per team. The negative rebuttal is either the third or fourth speech in the round and is a time for the negative to attack the affirmative's case. If the negative is going second, they will also rebuild their case, which is called frontlining.
In Lincoln Douglas, there is only one rebuttal speech. It is called the second negative rebuttal (2NR) and is the final speech in the round. It is six minutes long.
The first negative rebuttal (1NR) comes directly after the second negative constructive (2NC) and is used to develop new arguments against the affirmative. The speech is five minutes long.
