A contention is another word for an argument.
In Public Forum, a contention is an argument put forward in a constructive. A case is made up of contentions.
In Lincoln Douglas, contentions are ussually read in the Affirmative construtive. Sometimes they will be referred to as advntages. Similary, in the negative constructive they are sometimed called disadvantags.
