General Definition
Constructives are the first speech(es) in a round. They are used for teams to lay out their positions and in some event types, respond to their opponents.
The first speech given by each team, presenting the best arguments for their side. The speech is four minutes long.
In Lincon Douglas, the affirmative team gives a six-minute constructive covering of their main positions. Then, the negative team will give a seven-minute constructive, which will respond to the affirmative and also provide new points against the resolution.
In Policy, there are four constructives. Two are given by the affirmative and two by the negative. Each speech is eight-minutes long.
