Affirmative Constructive

AC/1AC

General Definition

The affirmative constructive, or first affirmative constructive in some events, is when the pro team lays out their reasons for affirming the resolution.

In a Public Forum, the affirmative constructive is four minutes and is either the first or second speech in the round. The team will read a pre-written "case" providing reasons why the judge should affirm the resolution.

This is the first speech of the debate. Here, the Affirmative will present their prewritten case for 6 minutes. They will have a “Framework” (setting up a philosophical way to view the round) and “Contentions” (arguments about the topic that connect back to their framework).

The First Affirmative Constructive is 8 minutes long and lays out the affirmative's plan and arguments in favor of the resolution.
