Nathan Johnston has over a decade of teaching and coaching experience in speech and debate. He is a two-diamond NSDA coach who has earned three Distinguished Service plaques from the National Speech & Debate Association. Nathan has served as Director of Speech and Debate at schools including Lake Highland Preparatory School and Trinity Preparatory School. He has also served as the Region 2 Coordinator for the Florida Forensics League, Chair of the Florida Panther NSDA district committee, and Chair of the NSDA Public Forum Debate Topic Wording Committee.

He holds master’s degrees in both History and Educational Leadership and is currently completing his doctorate in education at the University of South Carolina. Nathan has coached students to late elimination rounds and numerous TOC bids in Public Forum, Lincoln-Douglas, Congress, and speech events at tournaments including Yale, Bronx, Blue Key, Minneapple, Glenbrooks, Princeton, Emory, Harvard, the Tournament of Champions, CFL Grand Nationals, and the NSDA National Tournament. His students and programs have produced multiple state champions and national finalists in DI, Congress, POI, Storytelling, and Lincoln-Douglas Debate, as well as national champions in Poetry, Extemp, and Public Forum Debate.
