Matt debated for two years at Millard North High School in Omaha, Nebraska, and after graduating in 2017 competed for one year at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He has since coached at both Millard North High School and Lincoln High School, where his students have qualified for the Tournament of Champions and the NSDA National Tournament. Matt holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in History from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
