Colter Heirigs is a One Diamond coach from Aberdeen, SD who has been coaching debate for the past 8 years. In his time coaching, his teams have twice won the NSDA’s National Debate School of Excellence Award (recognizing the top 20 debate schools across the United States), and have won 7 State Championships. In his time coaching at Aberdeen Central, he qualified 8 policy teams to NSDA Nationals in 7 years, and coached 10 teams to the Semi-Final round of better of the State Tournament, coming one ballot shy of closing out the final round of Policy Debate in 2017, 2019, and 2020. Colter has coached both Policy and Lincoln Douglas Debaters to the late elimination rounds of Harvard, NSDA Nationals, NCFLs, and countless regional tournaments.Prior to coaching, Colter debated for 4 years in high school, where he was captain of his debate team, recognized as an All-American by the NSDA, qualified to NSDA Nationals twice in policy debate, and won 3 State Championships including a State Championship in Policy Debate in 2010. Colter is currently an Assistant Debate Coach at Lake Highland Preparatory School where he coaches Policy Debate and Lincoln Douglas Debate. He is excited to be working with debaters eager to take their debate game to the next level at NSD this summer!
